A large number of our regular swimmers, along with a few who have been regulars here before, competed in the Epic swims, the NZ Open Water Championships, in Taupo last weekend. Here’s the known results (apologies to anyone missing) – oops – that might be last year’s – will get back to that later. The 2019 Epic results are online here.
Here’s some photos from the Epic swim, courtesy of Steve Knowles from Sportzhub, click here.
During our swims and at other times during the week, please remember that the harbour is a precious shared resource. Yachties, kayakers, paddle boarders, fisher people and swimmers all enjoy and have equal rights to the water. If you come across other users, please be friendly and polite. There have been incidences of swimmers being rude to other harbour users – and vice versa. Please lead by example – a kind word averts many cross exchanges. It also lays the foundation for good relationships in the future. Similarly, please be polite to our support crews, whether in kayaks or inflatables. They are volunteers, doing their very best and if you’re rude to them they won’t come back (and then there wouldn’t be any swims – end of lesson).
We’ve received a discount code for the Big Tahuna, in Nelson on March 2. If you enter using the code SWIMNELSON10 you’ll get a 10% discount to the Nelson race.

There’s always a large contingent of Nelson swimmers at the Capital Classic in Wellington – this year on Sunday January 27. This year we expect between 20 and 30 Nelson swimmers and hope for a big medal count. Come and be part of Team Nelson – we usually stick together and make a lot of noise at the prizegiving.
You should also start thinking about Swim Fiji – your late winter getaway, August 22-26, 2019. Several Nelson swimmers have already flagged an interest. Check the website – www.oceanswimfiji.com
