Beautiful night for a 1500m swim. Lucas Bell took off like a startled rabbit from the gun, giving no chance for Terry Bone to get his big engine wound up as the field headed south. Ben Marshall did his best to hang on.
A couple of right turns took swimmers back up the harbour, with Lucas clinging to the lead to lead in Terry, then Ben, with Eddie Swain making a rare appearance for fourth.
Once again, Mia Pugh showed she’s the one to beat in the women’s field, taking fifth ahead of Jody Laing and Sam Trass, who gets faster every week (and has a great wetsuit).
The reliable Hamish Neill consolidated his M60-69 lead finishing eighth, ahead of the second woman Nia Linyard, who was followed by Lilly Claridge.
Christina Harris and Keshia Linyard took the third and fourth women’s positions.
Welcome back Derek Eaton, who had a convincing win in M80+.
In the short course swim, Phoebe Diamond and Roger Matheson had a stroke for stroke battle once again, with Phoebe having the youthful exuberance to take a narrow win.
Rob Trass clung to Roger’s toes to take third, ahead of newcomer Javier Saura Moreno, swimming without a wetsuit.
Elin Malmbeck had her second swim of the season to take fifth, just ahead of Ara Wyatt.
