Tomorrow, Sunday September 28, sea swimming gets its very early season launch with the Blue September 600m swim. The distance is significant because of the 600 men who are hit by prostate cancer every year. Did you read this story in yesterday’s Nelson Mail? click here
Entry to tomorrow’s swim costs $5, but donations in addition to this have already climbed into the hundreds of dollars, so bring your donations along too.
The swim starts at 10.30am and you can sign up at the venue – the Nelson Yacht Club. Leave time to get organised and remember that daylight saving starts tonight – put your clocks forward when you go to bed. There’ll be a booby prize for the first person to turn up an hour late.
After the swim, the showers will be hot and there’ll be a prizegiving and barbecue, thanks to sponsors Placemakers and their man on the spot (and person to beat tomorrow) Matt Hansen.
By the way, swimmer Jody Keefe-Laing was the winner of the MS Ford Blue September 5k run and he’ll be gunning to make it two from two.
Break the ice and kick off your summer of swimming with a swim for charity. Your entry fee goes to aid sufferers of prostate cancer.
