A cool, overcast morning greeted competitors at Cable Bay Adventure Park for Race 2 of the Shoe Clinic MTB Duathlon Series, with 46 athletes lining up across the long and short courses. Cable Bay offered a technical, hilly course with a small river crossing that left some competitors a bit wetter than others. The under‑12s kicked things off with the free kids race at 9:30am, taking on a fun run/bike/run loop around the park and bringing plenty of energy to the morning.
Eighteen athletes took on the long course, where Fergus O’Neill claimed the win in 56:07.5, followed by Oli Stedman in 1:00:13.3 and Tom Davies in 1:08:08.9. Georgia Whitla was the top female, finishing strongly in 1:09:41.4. In the short course, Noah Eden crossed the line first in 33:22.4, with Mitchell MacLachlan close behind in 34:13.5, and William Richards taking third in 34:40.7. Nia Linyard was the top female in the short course, finishing in 37:54.3. Full results can be viewed here: Full race results
There were a few moments of confusion on the first run of the long course, with some competitors taking a wrong turn, but thankfully everyone found their way back — some just ended up with a slightly longer warm‑up than expected. After the racing wrapped up, competitors and supporters gathered at the café for prizegiving, where the club provided finger food and a chance for everyone to relax and celebrate together.
A huge thank you goes to all our volunteers and to our sponsors, Nelson Shoe Clinic, for their continued support. Race day photos are available here: Race Photos
