Shoe Clinic Brooks Duathlon Series
Race three of the Shoe Clinic Brooks Duathlon Series is on Sunday. The rain looks like it will hold off for the morning and the course should be in good shape, despite the recent rain.
If you haven’t yet entered, it’s not too late. See the entry website, click here There’s plenty of spot prizes, including a pair of Brooks shoes and contributions from all the sponsors including a bag of Proper Crisps for all finishers.
For competitors aged 5-12, there’s a micro course of 600m run, 1.2km bike, 600m run. This race starts at 9.30am. There is no entry fee and parents may accompany their children on the course.
2018-2019 programme
The programme has been put in place and you can see it on the Events page of the club website, www.nelsontriclub.co.nz
A card has been printed – just the thing to stick on your fridge, with triathlon/duathlon events on one side and swim events on the other.
We’re slowly distributing these cards around the region, but if you can put any in your favourite sports shop, gym or other location, either pick some up at the race on Sunday or flick us an email and we’ll get them out there.
World Championships
Two of our club members are travelling to Denmark for the world Aquabike championships in July, while a dozen head for Australia’s Gold Coast for the sprint and standard distance triathlon champs in September.
We’re pleased to welcome out of town members, who have chosen to join our club in order to fulfil the qualification requirements.
Here’s the full list of club members competing. We congratulate them on having made it this far and wish them luck overseas. We’ll report on results.

Breca Bay of Islands 2019
Ten of our club members competed in Breca Bay of Islands in April and there was unanimous agreement that it was one of the most challenging and satisfying events that any of us had ever done. If you haven’t yet heard about the event, it involves 8.6km of swimming and 25km of running, split into 19 stages. You compete in a team of two, both completing the whole course and staying within 10m of each other the whole time.
Since entries opened yesterday, something like 30 teams have entered, so don’t leave it too long, although the ceiling on entries seems to have grown from the approximately 120 teams racing this year to about 200 next year.
In 2019 there’ll also be a sprint race of about half the distance.
