Proper Crisp Team Triathlon Race Report

What a brilliant morning out at Conifer Park on Rabbit Island for the Proper Crisp Team Triathlon. With picture‑perfect blue skies, calm seas, and the tide slowly easing out, conditions couldn’t have been better — even if it did make the run from the swim to transition just that little bit longer.

This fun, fast format saw athletes take on a 200 m swim, 6 km mountain bike, and 1 km run — repeated three times continuously. Teams could choose from:

  • Team Tag Tri – each person completing a full triathlon before tagging the next teammate on the beach
  • Team Tri – specialist swimmer, cyclist, and runner rotating through the disciplines three times
  • Loose Cannons – for those brave (or slightly wild) enough to tackle all nine stages solo, or mix and match with a big group of friends

We had a fantastic turnout with 36 entries checked in, including 31 teams and five individuals taking on the full nine‑stage challenge alone. The mix was classic Nelson Tri Club — families, friends, workmates, first‑timers, seasoned racers, and plenty of smiles all round.

The atmosphere on the beach and around transition was buzzing all morning, helped along by our wonderful volunteers who kept everything running smoothly. A huge thank‑you to them — and to our generous sponsor Proper Crisp, who made sure everyone who took part headed home with a well‑earned packet of Proper Crisps.
