The season began under a sky that couldn’t decide—sunny and grey in equal measure. A few drops of rain teased the start but held off until everyone was safely ashore. The sea’s warming up, and 102 swimmers took the plunge for the first Thursday night swim of the season .
Lucas Bell led the long course wetsuit field, followed by Chris Smithers and Eddie Swain. In the women’s wetsuit division, Phoebe Diamond made a strong debut in the long course, edging out Nia Linyard in a tight finish, with Conor Tarrant close behind. After a successful short course season last summer, Phoebe’s move up was well-timed.
Finn Bryant started his season with a win in the non-wetsuit long course, ahead of Jude Vincent and Andrew James. Jude also topped the women’s non-wetsuit field with a solid swim to start the season.
In the short course, Ardan Warner was quickest in wetsuit, with Arabella Brosnan and Chloe Styles leading the girls. Henry Jones took the non-wetsuit win, ahead of Rodney Hansen and Pamela Olmedo-Rojas.
A strong start to the season, with familiar names at the top and plenty of new ones in the mix.
