High hopes of a calm swim were dashed when the wind come up just as the race started, so swimmers faced choppy conditions.
Hayden Squance swam away from the start, pursued by Luke Kelly, Terry Bone, Hamish Neill and Simon Kneebone, and that was the way they finished. Flossie Van Dyke came in just behind father Ben to win the women’s race by eight seconds from Kerry Mathieson.
Charlie Squance made it a family affair, winning the short swim from Rebecca McKenzie and Lincoln Mackenzie.
Featured swimmer: Marina Buonocore was happy to meet the challenge of choppy seas, finishing in 63rd place. Marina is the club treasurer, so puts in plenty of hours behind the scenes, when she’s not out training. Having conquered the Coast to Coast this year, her next goal with partner Brendon Crequer is Godzone.
