We couldn’t have had a better night. 178 swimmers, flat calm, no sun in the eyes. We called it 1500m, although one swimmer had 1800m on his gps.

Featured swimmer: Pip Dwyer. Pip will have her name on the overall winner’s cup this year. In her third season of swimming in the series, tonight she recorded her fifth win of the season – not an easy thing to do in a highly competitive women’s field.
Tonight’s winner of the chance to go to Samoa is Annie Jones. With two swims to go, only two more swimmers will be added to the list of people eligible for the draw at closing night, March 19. Swimmers must be present on closing night to claim their prize, which will be drawn under police supervision. If you’ve forgotten, the prize is a return trip for two to Samoa from Nelson, with accommodation and entries to the three-race Samoa Swim Series.
