Port Nelson Sea Swim 16, February 26, 2015

We couldn’t have had a better night. 178 swimmers, flat calm, no sun in the eyes. We called it 1500m, although one swimmer had 1800m on his gps.

Emily Trengrove did a fine job of photos, as usual. Here they are

Featured swimmer: Pip Dwyer. Pip will have her name on the overall winner’s cup this year. In her third season of swimming in the series, tonight she recorded her fifth win of the season – not an easy thing to do in a highly competitive women’s field.

Tonight’s winner of the chance to go to Samoa is Annie Jones. With two swims to go, only two more swimmers will be added to the list of people eligible for the draw at closing night, March 19. Swimmers must be present on closing night to claim their prize, which will be drawn under police supervision. If you’ve forgotten, the prize is a return trip for two to Samoa from Nelson, with accommodation and entries to the three-race Samoa Swim Series. The prize comes courtesy of Wildside Travel in Motueka. If you’re planning to take part in the series (even if you don’t win the draw) please support our sponsors and book through Andrea at Wildside.

Here’s the Nelson Mail story

Nelson Mail Team Triathlon: You have until Thursday to get your entry in. There’s a lot of horse trading and matchmaking going on (and plenty of errant metaphors). If you’ve made a plea for an extra team member, please remind me. Email info@nelsontriclub.co.nz if you’re a team looking for a member, or if you’e a lonely soul looking for a team – even if you mentioned it tonight. My brain gets fuzzy.
