Port Nelson Sea Swims, Race 16, February 20, 2020

Tough swim this week. Fergus Drummond turned the tables on Oxford Bayley and Alec Swan to score his second win of the season, with Abbey Smale looking strong to finish in fourth place.

Swimmers faced a strong incoming tide as they swam south, with a northerly wind stirring up the surface. An unexpected swirl in the current provided a further handicap in the leg from the Haulashore Island jetty to the dolphin. The conditions over the 1700m swim meant that the leaders swam four minutes slower than last week, while those further back took upwards of ten minutes more than last week to finish the course.

Hamish Neill, Matt Hansen, Sophie Alexander, Haydn Lockie, Flossie Van Dyke and Ben Van Dyke filled out the top ten.

Nothing daunts Brooke Swan, who cleaned up once again in the short swim over about 600m, ahead of Edward Swain, Emily Chadderton, Lily Claridge and Eva Ellena.
