Interesting swim – just over 1700m and a bit rough, but no current to speak of.

Hayden Squance, Oxford Bayley, Luke Kelly, Fergus Drummond, Abbey Smale and Alec Swan led the way across to the buoy which was to be fixed just off the jetty. However the buoy was closer to the dolphin and seemed to be having erection problems. Sighting into the sun, most of the leaders missed it, except for Oxford Bayley who struck off for the next mark, building a decent lead.
Oxford almost held on to the end of the circuit around all the yachts anchored in the harbour, but Luke scooped him up just before the end to take the win by two seconds.
There was a gap of 30 seconds back to Fergus, then Alec, swimming without a wetsuit. who was extended to touch a fraction of a second ahead of recent Wanaka Challenge winner Hayden.
Abbey Smale was five seconds back to lead in 56-year-old Hamish Neill, then Sierra Thomas, Sophie Alexander and Haydn Lockie rounding out the top ten.
In the short swim of 600m, Brooke Swan continued her unbeaten string of ten wins ahead of Edward Swain, who has been the first male to finish in all five of the swims he’s competed in this season.
Corey Tremblay was third, maintaining his lead in the U16 male points table, while Eva Ellena in fourth holds the second spot in the U16 women’s table.
