Sea swims, January 5, 2017

Solid swims of 400m and 1200m. Christchurch swimmer Angus Syme touched just ahead of Hayden Squance in the long race, with Nelson’s 2016 junior sportswoman of the year Caitlin Delany edging out Talya Harwood in Caitlin’s last swim with us for a few years, as she prepares to take up a swim scholarship in San Diego. Zara Aydon cracked on with yet another win in the short course ahead of Emily Bryant and Nicholas Paulin.

Featured photo: Jon Linyard led Denis Cooper by one second in tonight’s swim. Both have been among our top swimmers for many years. Jon has been a national age group triathlon champion on many occasions and has represented New Zealand at many world championships, most recently the world cross triathlon championships in Australia in November. Jon has given his time to coach many triathletes and is the regular coach in the tri club’s Saturday morning sessions at Riverside Pool. Denis has been a top cyclist and has also represented New Zealand in triathlon world championships. Our top 50-59 swimmer in recent years, Denis is now a personal trainer at Riverside Pool, where he helps many swimmers and triathletes (and regular people too) to achieve their health and fitness goals
