Port Nelson swim, March 8
Very nice swim to finish the season – just over 1500m for the long swim, calm conditions, not much current on the return leg from the black boat. Here’s the results. Results in finish order Photos, by Janice Coyle Here’s the final points. Story on Sportzhub
Port Nelson swim, March 1
Low tide is at 4.19pm, so it’ll be an incoming tide. That means the flow will be from the south, so we’ll swim towards it close to shore, angling out into the current for the return journey.. Turned out to be near perfect for a swim of 1600m for the long swim, a big loop around the harbour. Here’s the …
Port Nelson swim, February 22
Tonight’s swim has been cancelled. Following the recent rain, NCC has issued a swim warning which will be in place until at least tomorrow. Apologies for this – we’ll resume swimming next week (March 1).
Port Nelson swim, February 15
Turned out to be a great swim. The sea was calm, the sun was out, the current was barely there and the water didn’t taste bad at all. To the delight of some, the reduced field – the lowest this summer – gave the chance to pick up some points. Featured photo: Jude Vincent and Jane Alloway were very happy …
Port Nelson swim, February 8, 2018

We had 156 swimmers, in perfect conditions. Here’s …
Port Nelson sea swim, February 1
It won’t come as any surprise – tonight’s swim is cancelled!!! Low tide is at 5.22pm – and it’s very low, but it’ll be coming in so it’s possible to set courses going south against the flow and coming back wider out. However, here’s the weather forecast for Thursday: “Rain setting in early, with heavy falls. Northerlies rising to …
Super sunny Sunday, January 28
What a day! In Wellington, Nelson swimmers took away 14 medals in the Capital Classic, race three of the Banana Boat Ocean Swim Series. That included two gold medals for Luke Kelly (pictured), overall winner and winner of M20-24, a bronze medal for Sierra Thomas for third woman (and ninth overall in the race) and a gold for first in …
Port Nelson Sea Swim, January 25
High tide is at 4.23pm, so it’ll be rushing on out. That indicates the short swim heading north first, then returning to the ramp. The long swim starting the same – over to the dolphin, then back to Rocks Rd and return closer to shore. That’s exactly what happened – long swim was about 1450m. 154 swimmers turned up for …
