The wind that’s plagued the season so far continued to be a factor, with the planned course shortened a little and kept closer to shore.
Even so, swimmers took on a loop of just over a kilometre, heading north before a 500m leg south and the final slog of about 300m into the outgoing tide and wind.
With the annual Aquagym camp centred on Nayland Pool this week, there were plenty of fresh faces and teenager Ben Isles showed his form, leading home Dunedin student Josef Scott. Tasman school teacher Hayden Squance had to be content with third.
In the women’s division, Keshia Linyard claimed her second win of the season, ahead of Kate Alexander and Christina Harris.
Two 60+ swimmers featured among the top five women, with Christina Harris joined in that group by Karen Oliver. Sophie Pahl separated the pair, taking fourth place.
