Despite all the damage at Rabbit Island and the confusion caused by the cancellation, the event was a great success for the small but perfectly formed field that took part. Although it wasn’t about winning, in the team tag event the Ruby Bay Racers (the Squance family) came in first, ahead of Little Big Boys (Wayne Leighton, Jobe McAuley and …
Port Nelson swim, February 22
Tonight’s swim has been cancelled. Following the recent rain, NCC has issued a swim warning which will be in place until at least tomorrow. Apologies for this – we’ll resume swimming next week (March 1).
Run in Samoa
The Samoa Swim Series has been a favourite winter destination for many of our club members in recent years. But that’s not all the team at Samoa Events have on offer. How about a winter escape from June 28? Check out the Samoa Run Series: www.samoaevents.com/run-festival-2018
Port Nelson swim, February 15
Turned out to be a great swim. The sea was calm, the sun was out, the current was barely there and the water didn’t taste bad at all. To the delight of some, the reduced field – the lowest this summer – gave the chance to pick up some points. Featured photo: Jude Vincent and Jane Alloway were very happy …
Team Tri cancelled

Busy weekend for Nelson triathletes
Team tri numbers for Sunday’s race are slightly down, due largely to conflicting events – Buller marathon, Coast to Coast and the national sprint tri champs in Kinloch. Port Nelson swim, February 8, 2018
What a great swim. If we get more high tide opportunities, this seems like a popular option – give us your thoughts. After a look at the tide tables, it doesn’t seem that there’s one suitable for another beach swim this season. We’ll definitely put some on the season for next year. We had 156 swimmers, in perfect conditions. Here’s …
Port Nelson sea swim, February 1
It won’t come as any surprise – tonight’s swim is cancelled!!! Low tide is at 5.22pm – and it’s very low, but it’ll be coming in so it’s possible to set courses going south against the flow and coming back wider out. However, here’s the weather forecast for Thursday: “Rain setting in early, with heavy falls. Northerlies rising to …
Super sunny Sunday, January 28
What a day! In Wellington, Nelson swimmers took away 14 medals in the Capital Classic, race three of the Banana Boat Ocean Swim Series. That included two gold medals for Luke Kelly (pictured), overall winner and winner of M20-24, a bronze medal for Sierra Thomas for third woman (and ninth overall in the race) and a gold for first in …
